Our school's mission statement directly states that "Milken Community High School develops students with sharp minds, generous hearts and kind souls." Milken continues to develop, where appropriate, opportunities for student learning centered at the intersection between ancient wisdom and innovation, personal and cultural identity and multiculturalism, ritual and experimentation. What greater truths can we learn about our world and our selves based on these explorations? How can we capture not only our pasts and histories but also our promise and purpose for the future?

Integrated Experiences at MCHS

In conjunction with Dr. David Meyers and his graduate students from the UCLA Jewish History program, the educators at Milken designed a state-of-the-art integrated two-year exploration of Jewish and World History beginning with the Age of Discovery through post-World War II Europe and the development of the modern state of Israel.

The Visual arts program provides multiple opportunities for students to explore both self and Jewish expression in a variety of media.

All seniors can choose to challenge themselves in the year-long AP Literature and Composition/High Honors Jewish Philosophy seminar (Course Syllabus and Course Schedule.) Students who take the course are both prepared for the Advanced Placement Literature exam in May and upon completion of the course receive college credit from the University of Judaism, transferable to most major colleges and universities in the country. (Rachel Firestone ’04 sample integrated essay and Josh Krug ‘04/Michele Goldman ‘04 one act play)

Our award winning choral program works with music from a wide range genres: Original compositions by Jewish composers, traditional Jewish motifs, and creative Jewish acappella.

Senior Seminar: Israel

All seniors take this highly interactive and college preparatory class which explores Israel from a variety of perspectives. The course hopes to give students the ability see the complexity and beauty of Israeli culture and society but also the tools to become advocates for the state of Israel as they transition onto the college campus.
